            Welcome Koreans!

Led by Jong Il Lee, the Korean Internet Volunteer team named "Do I.T.” came to Aklan State University, Teacher Education Center on July 11 this year.

The team will be with ASU TEC until August 10. Other members of the team are: Yun HyeJeong, Jo Haena, and Mangoo Shon. They are one of the 64 teams selected by Korea to be distributed worldwide as Internet volunteers.

They are the students from different cities of South Korea of different disciplines and fields of specializations from different Korean universities. Lee, 24, a student of Kyungwon University taking BS Engineering major in Computer Science; Haena, 23, of Seoul Women’s University taking BS in Art(Craft), HyeJeong, 23, of Kukmin University taking BS Administration and Shon from University of Dankook, 22, BS Engineering major in Polymer Science.

When asked why they chose to be in the Philippines among the countries worldwide to choose from, HyeJeong answered "Philippines is challenging. Knowing that the Philippines being a less fortunate country, we are eager to help the country through sharing our knowledge and expertise on Internet as well as our cultures.”

Shon being their spokesperson said, "Filipinos are friendly people”. He mentioned that Philippines is Korea’s friend because the Philippine engineers built an amphitheater for Korea and that Korea is very thankful to Filipinos.

On July 12, an orientation program with the KIV was held. There was a video presentation by the KIV to showcase their cultures, traditions and customs. Hangeul is the language they speak.

According to them, the male citizens should enter military service when they reach 19. They must be in the service for two years. Those handicapped can do social service instead.

The KIV, together with Joeblas S. Diaz KIV coordinator, also had a courtesy call with Mayor Ramon S. Legaspi Jr. of Makato and Gov. Carlito S. Marquez of Aklan.
