‘GAM SA HAP NI DA’

by: Abegail del Rosario (TECians’ Journal’s Feature Editor)

Do you want to meet some Koreans? Are you a Koreanovela fan? Well, perhaps, you are absolutely familiar with the names then of Jun Pyoo, Kimbum or Jandi and other Korean artist, who in one way or another swept our hearts out with their handsome and beautiful faces. What if when you step in your school campus and you saw a couple of Koreans? I hope you will not get crumpled to get an autograph or to have a picture with them because certainly they are not Korean artists just like what we had right now in our school.

Arrived at ASU TEC, July 11 this year, all the way from South Korea, four Korean Internet Volunteers with their team leader Jong Il Lee, 24, turned our heads on with them when they are introduced to us by our school Head, Dr. Eleanor T. Mationg. Just like us, they are also students in Korea.

When asked if it is their first time to be here in the Philippines, they all answered in chorus with a resounding YES! At first, they had hesitations to be here because of the not so good situation of the country but when they set foot here, their hesitations mellowed. They even loved our place despite all odds.

They are here not just being an Internet guru, they are here as well, to know more about our country, our traditions, cultures, beliefs. They are here to experience how is it to be in the Philippines, how is it to be in Aklan.

And it is true, because for a short time, they come to know and taste Filipino dishes like chicken "inasal”, pancit molo, buttered shrimp and many more. They also knew some commonly used Filipino lines like salamat po, magandang hapon, mahal kita. Surprisingly, they can pronounce it very well.

They were formed because of series of competitions in Korea they joined until finally they qualified to be a KIV. For them, being a KIV is a good experience. Their main thrust is to teach computer applications and Internet among students and faculty.

So to the KIV team, our warm "GAM SA HAP NI DA” for imparting your time with us and choosing us to be a recipient of your knowledge and expertise. #
