The Aklan State University Teacher Education Center is formerly the Northern Panay Teachers College (NPTC) situated on a 10- hectare lot at Calangcang, Makato, Aklan about 1.5 kms. away from the Poblacion, Makato and 9 kms. North of Kalibo. It is created by virtue of Republic Act 4711 on June 18, 1966 but was non-operational for 30 years.
In
1995, the Provincial Government of Aklan, the Sangguniang Bayan of
Makato in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Sport Aklan
proposed the opening of the Northern
Panay Teachers College offering the First Year of the 4 year curriculum of Bachelor of
Secondary Education. On February 10, 1995, Schools Division Superindent
of Aklan, Cresente S. Albado endorsed Wilfredo C. Arboleda as Officer-
In –charge of NPTC and which was duly approved by the Regional Director
,DECS Regional Office V1, Iloilo City. In June 1996, NPTC was opened
offering Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Technology and Home
Economics at the Calangcang Elementary School with volunteers faculty
and staff. In the same year
also, ASCA Extension opened its First Year Curriculum of the Bachelor
of Science in Agriculture, Major in Agricultural Education.
Since NPTC did not have a school site, the Provincial Government of Aklan donated 10 has. Lot at Barangay Castillo, Makato, Aklan, a 1 storey administration building amounting to P 1.7 M was conducted on the site.
With the integration, NPTC transferred to Calangcang, Makato, Aklan. On April 4, 2001, ASCA was converted to Aklan State University through RA. 9055. On January 10, 2003, through Memorandum Order No. 04-123 by President Benny A. Palma, NPTC was placed under the School of Arts and Sciences, as Teacher Education Center. This Center now is what is called the Aklan State University Teacher Education Center (ASU TEC).
