Led
by Jong Il Lee, the Korean Internet Volunteer team named "Do I.T.” came to
Aklan State University, Teacher Education Center on July 11 this year.
The
team will be with ASU TEC until August 10. Other members of the team are: Yun
HyeJeong, Jo Haena, and Mangoo Shon. They are one of the 64 teams selected by
Korea to be distributed worldwide as Internet volunteers.
They
are the students from different cities of South Korea of different disciplines
and fields of specializations from different Korean universities. Lee, 24, a
student of Kyungwon University taking BS Engineering major in Computer Science;
Haena, 23, of Seoul Women’s University taking BS in Art(Craft), HyeJeong, 23, of
Kukmin University taking BS Administration and Shon from University of Dankook,
22, BS Engineering major in Polymer Science.
When
asked why they chose to be in the Philippines among the countries worldwide to
choose from, HyeJeong answered "Philippines is challenging. Knowing that the Philippines
being a less fortunate country, we are eager to help the country through
sharing our knowledge and expertise on Internet as well as our cultures.”
Shon
being their spokesperson said, "Filipinos are friendly people”. He mentioned
that Philippines is Korea’s friend because the Philippine engineers built an
amphitheater for Korea and that Korea is very thankful to Filipinos.
On
July 12, an orientation program with the KIV was held. There was a video
presentation by the KIV to showcase their cultures, traditions and customs.
Hangeul is the language they speak.
According
to them, the male citizens should enter military service when they reach 19.
They must be in the service for two years. Those handicapped can do social
service instead.
The
KIV, together with Joeblas S. Diaz KIV coordinator, also had a courtesy call
with Mayor Ramon S. Legaspi Jr. of Makato and Gov. Carlito S. Marquez of Aklan.
